NAFEMS CAE Certification Program

India has spent enough time in learning part of the engineering services curve. The Engineering Services Outsourcing (ESO) is assuming greater complexity and economics are compelling it to move towards strong engineering culture i.e. OEM culture. In this direction the top institutions in the country such as NASSCOM, NAFEMS India chapter and others conducted through deliberations at various levels.

NAFEMS called for an Expert Panel Meeting for “Certification program for CAE Professionals” on 6th July 2012 at Bangalore, India. From the meeting it is understood well by academia and students that a need for level-1 certification on CAE expertise be created in the graduating year of engineering course, which can add value to their recruitment in top CAE jobs. The need has to be seamlessly integrated with college syllabi where individuals could be encouraged to take up certification program within the college infrastructure.

Thus approach to engineering education has to undergo a huge transformation. The requirement could be summarized as below, apart from rigorous physics and maths background:

  • Engineering design Process.
  • Familiarity with Current Technology.
  • Basic System level Product knowledge.
  • Engineering Materials and Manufacturing.
  • Product testing and measurement.
  • Product impact on environment.
  • Statutory requirements.
  • Interdisciplinary Engineering Knowledge.
  • Strong subject fundamentals.

The current curriculum only gives engineering literacy and does not fulfill the real-time requirements. This is well established after surveying the experience of campus recruitment spanning from 3-tier Colleges to NIT’s and IIT’s.

Till now 7 institutes totaling 350 students have successfully completed the certification program.
